About Us
Every successful individual knows that his or her achievement depends on a community of persons working together.
The Upper Room is a Crisis Center for women and children coming out of trauma, domestic violence, exploitation, homelessness, and addictions. We strive to offer a haven for individuals to find mental health resources, life skill training, support, mentorship, and care through difficult times to find healing and help as they gain independence.
The Upper Room is a sister organization of Shannon’s Hope Maternity Home. Shannon’s Hope has existed for 44 years and has served thousands of women in the Denver Metro Area. In August of 2022, the idea to open a second home and crisis center in the Council Bluffs area was conceived. In May of 2024, Gabby D., the Executive Director of The Upper Room, moved to Council Bluffs from Denver to begin supporting the local at-risk community of Council Bluffs.
The Upper Room offers case management advocates and mentorship for women and children coming out of crisis, homelessness, addictions, and exploitation. Our trauma-informed staff is prepared to walk along with individuals and is ready to take the beginning steps in their healing journey. We plan to open a safe refuge group home in early 2025 for single women, pregnant women, and women with children.
We combine structure and grace to help our clients set and accomplish their short—and long-term goals.
